Militant nabbed in Manipur, arms recovered

Imphal, June 22 (UNI) Manipur Police and security forces have intensified search operations and area domination here.

As part of the ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability, a significant quantity of arms, ammunition, explosives, and tactical equipment was recovered from various districts, and

one active insurgent was apprehended during separate operations, police said on Sunday.

In a major breakthrough, a militant was nabbed from Mayang Imphal Thana Mamang

Thongkhong under Mayang Imphal Police Station in Imphal West District.

In the foothills of Gwarok Mahadev under Yairipok Police Station, Thoubal District, security forces recovered a substantial cache that included one Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) with magazine, one SMG Carbine, one 9mm pistol, three No. 36 high-explosive hand grenades, and various types of live ammunition including .303, 5.56 mm, 9 mm, and 7.62 mm rounds.

Additional recoveries included detonators, arming ring, tube launchers, wireless handsets, helmets, and a WP Green 80 MK grenade.

Further operations in the jungle between L. Phaikot and Leilon Vaiphei, under Leimakhong Police Station in Kangpokpi District, led to the recovery of one Pumpi gun, an SLR with magazine, 7.62x51 mm ammunition, a Baofeng handheld radio set, two small improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two large IEDs (approximately 25 kg each), and associated ammunition.

In Kakching District, during an operation in the Nongmaikhong Makha Leikai Hill Range under Arong Nongmaikhong Police Station, security forces seized one SMG Carbine with two magazines, one AK-47 rifle, two single-barrel guns, a modified 9mm pistol with magazines, three IEDs, explosive packets (PEK), wire detonators, various calibers of live and empty ammunition, as well as tactical gear including camouflage helmets, ballistic protection covers, and military-style backpacks.

In a separate operation in the foothills of Chingkhei Ching Phaknung Village under Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East District, the forces recovered one INSAS Light Machine Gun (LMG) and an INSAS rifle, two SLRs, a sniper rifle, a .32 pistol, along with assorted live and spent ammunition of 5.56 mm, 7.62 mm, .303, and 9 mm types. Tear smoke shells, rubber bullets, body armor with

ballistic plates, and helmets were also among the recovered items.

Another significant seizure took place at Mayophung-Sanasabi Hill under Yaingangpokpi Police Station in Imphal East District, where troops discovered a bipod-mounted .303 rifle, heavy caliber mortars and mortar bombs, two Burmese-origin IEDs, multiple types of grenades (including No. 36, O-ring, and No. 8 WP), Baofeng radios, one pistol, various types of live ammunition, and tactical equipment such as body protection jackets, a helmet, and jungle shoes.
