Bhubaneswar, Oct 23 (UNI) Odisha has attracted investment proposals worth Rs 53,893.51 crore, with the potential to generate 20,210 employment opportunities, during India Chem 2026 in Mumbai, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said on Friday.
The investment proposals include nine memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and four investment-intent letters signed during the two-day event held on October 22 and 23, Majhi told newsmen after returning to Bhubaneswar.
The Chief Minister also announced that the next edition of the chemical and petrochemical industry conference would be held in Odisha in October 2027. The event, to be organised with the support of the Centre and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), will be called Odisha Chem 2027,he said.
Among the key agreements signed was an MoU with NLC India Ltd worth Rs 36,763.51 crore in the chemicals and energy sectors, according to the state government.
During the Mumbai visit, Majhi and Team Odisha held 25 one-on-one meetings with business leaders and representatives of major companies, including POSCO India, JSW and Larsen & Toubro (L&T), as well as companies from the United States and European countries.
The discussions helped the state understand investors’ requirements and familiarise them with the opportunities and facilities available for setting up industries in Odisha, Majhi said, adding that several prospective investors had expressed keen interest in investing in the state.
He also thanked union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister J P Nadda for his support in facilitating discussions with companies.
Majhi said the engagements at India Chem 2026 would help Odisha advance its objective of diversifying its economy from a predominantly metal-based one to a chemical-based economy.
The state government aims to develop an integrated industrial ecosystem encompassing metals, metal downstream industries, chemicals, petrochemicals and plastics, he said.
Such an ecosystem would strengthen Odisha’s contribution to the national goal of building a self-reliant India, the Chief Minister added.
