Tripura HC commutes jail terms of 4 Bangladeshi nationals

Agartala, Sept 23 (UNI)The Tripura High Court has commuted the sentences of four Bangladeshi nationals who were convicted in distinct cases involving unlawful entry into India to the duration they have already served in detention and has ordered their repatriation to Bangladesh.
Justice Dr T Amarnath Goud issued the order while concluding three criminal appeals submitted by the defendants. The four Bangladeshis had been found guilty under the provisions of the Foreigners Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, and Passport (Entry into India) Act for crossing into India without proper travel documentation.
Two of the appellants, Ratilal Das and his spouse, Binita Rani Das, were detained by BSF along with others in the vicinity of Srirampur Manu Bridge in Unakoti district in February 2025. The Sessions Court at Kailashahar had imposed a sentence of two years' rigorous imprisonment in addition to penalties.
