Patna, June 21 (UNI) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday announced a hefty hike in the social security pension for the elderly, disabled, and widows ahead of assembly elections due in October-November this year.
Kumar made the announcement on his social media account X on Saturday. The Bihar Chief Minister Social Security Pension Scheme beneficiaries including elderly, disabled, and widows will now get a pension of Rs 1,100 instead of Rs 400 every month. The increased pension would be given from the month of July, Nitish said.
The CM stated that it will be ensured that this amount is sent to the bank accounts of all the beneficiaries on the 10th of each month. This will help 1 crore 9 lakh 69 thousand 255 beneficiaries, Kumar added.
Nitish said that those getting social security pension were precious part of the society and ensuring them a dignified life was on the top of the government's agenda. He said that the decision was taken for financial stability of the vulnerable groups and added that the government was committed to inclusive governance and social justice and would continue to make efforts in that direction.
Meanwhile, the decision was being viewed as a strategic political masterstroke to reclaim political momentum ahead of the state assembly elections.
