Assam: BJP prepares for BTC elections, likely to field candidates

Guwahati, June 22 (UNI) Assam's ruling BJP is likely to field candidates on its own in the forthcoming elections to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC), party sources indicated on Sunday.

In a strategic move aimed at strengthening the party at the grassroots level, the party leadership has entrusted responsibilities to 40 senior karyakartas who will oversee and rejuvenate organisational structures across all council constituencies under the BTC.

According to an official statement issued from the state BJP headquarters here, these senior functionaries will visit each booth within the 40 council constituencies of the BTC to assess and enhance the organsational machinery.

"The initiative is seen as part of the party’s broader strategy to ensure a robust electoral presence across the region," the statement said.

It is noteworthy that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and state BJP President & MP Dilip Saikia have, on multiple occasions, announced the party’s aspiration to field candidates in the majority of BTC constituencies in the upcoming elections.

"To trigger further momentum to the party’s election preparations, a high-level political deliberation will be held on June 24 at Mushalpur in Baksa district," it said adding that the meeting will be attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, State President Dilip Saikia, BJP National Secretary and MP Shri Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, ministers and coordinators entrusted with responsibilities for the BTC elections, district presidents and general secretaries from all five BTC districts.

Besides, the district in-charges and co-incharges, constituency level coordinators for all 40 council segments, MLAs, Executive Members (EMs), MCLAs, and district-level social media conveners will also be roped in.

The party expects that this crucial brainstorming session will usher in a new phase of organisational engagement for the BJP within the BTC’s geographical domain, thereby reinforcing its political and electoral foundation in the region. UNI ANP SSP
