Tejashwi accuses BJP of voter manipulation in Bihar MLC Polls

Patna, Oct 23 (UNI) RJD Working President and Leader of Opposition in Bihar Tejashwi Yadav on Friday accused the BJP of attempting to manipulate the Bihar Legislative Council elections by adding fake voters to electoral rolls, while a clash between rival political camps in Mokama and a late-night police visit to an RJD candidate’s residence added to the political tension surrounding the polls.
In a social media post, Tejashwi alleged that the BJP was trying to register fake voters in the four Teachers’ and four Graduate constituencies that went to the polls on Friday.
“The BJP has become so accustomed to vote theft that it now wants to manipulate the elections in Bihar by getting fake voters registered in the four Teachers’ and four Graduate constituencies,” he said.
Tejashwi claimed that the four Teachers’ constituencies, spread across 16 districts, had a total of 40,253 voters, yet fake voters had allegedly been added to the electoral rolls. He accused the BJP of dishonesty and fraud, alleging that people had recognised what he described as attempts to undermine democracy.
The RJD leader also shared a media report alleging that fake voters had been added to the electoral rolls in the Patna Teachers’ Constituency.
In another social media post, Tejashwi targeted Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary over a late-night police visit to the residence of Dr Sanjeev Kumar, the RJD candidate from the Patna Teachers’ constituency.
Sharing a video showing a heated exchange between the candidate’s supporters and the police, Tejashwi alleged that officers had arrived at Dr Sanjeev Kumar’s residence late on Thursday night without a search warrant and harassed him in an attempt to demoralise him.
Meanwhile, voting for eight Bihar Legislative Council seats concluded, with turnout figures varying across the Graduate and Teachers’ constituencies. A clash between rival camps was reported in Mokama under the Patna Graduate Constituency.
Supporters of JD(U) MLA Anant Singh, who is backing Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh, clashed with supporters of JD(U) nominee Neeraj Kumar. The confrontation involved a heated exchange between the two groups.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ram Krishna reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Some people from both sides were taken into custody. The Special Task Force (STF) also detained Chhotu Singh, a Jan Suraaj supporter, who was taken to Jakkanpur police station.
According to the final figures released at 4 pm, the four Graduate constituencies recorded a combined turnout of 43.87 per cent, while the four Teachers’ constituencies registered 74.55 per cent.
Despite the high-profile contest between Anuj Singh, backed by Anant Singh, and JD(U)’s Neeraj Kumar, Patna recorded the lowest turnout among the Graduate constituencies, at 36.19 per cent.
Among the Graduate constituencies, Kosi recorded the highest turnout at 52.51 per cent.
In the Teachers’ constituencies, Saran led with 87.16 per cent polling. Darbhanga recorded 79 per cent turnout, followed by Tirhut at 78.10 per cent. Patna Teachers’ Constituency registered a turnout of 56.89 per cent.
