Bhubaneswar, Oct 17 (UNI) Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD), the student wing of the opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has won 173 of the 286 colleges that have declared results so far and secured victories in five universities in Odisha’s recently concluded students’ union elections, BJD president and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik claimed on Saturday.
Patnaik said the BCJD had won in more than 60 per cent of colleges and over 50 per cent of universities where elections were held. He thanked the students for what he described as a resounding victory, alleging that they had upheld the ideals of the BJD despite the use of money and muscle power and intense pressure from the ruling BJP government.
Naveen Niwas, the residence of Patnaik, witnessed a steady stream of victorious student leaders from different parts of Odisha throughout the day. The BCJD leaders met the BJD president and sought his blessings following their victories.
