Agartala, June 15 (UNI) The ruling BJP’s partner in Tripura government, TIPRA Motha, sent a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi through Governor Indrasena Reddy Nallu seeking the centre’s intervention for deportation of illegal Bangladeshi nationals from the state.
They said as per Indira-Mujib pact, whoever came to Tripura after May 24, 1971 are illegal immigrant and all such individuals need to be pushed back to Bangladesh for maintaining demographic balance and internal security.
According to police, the fresh push on illegal immigrants could escalate political tensions in the state, particularly given the involvement of people in high positions, allegedly among the post-1971 settlers in the state. The issue became highly sensitive with the ruling coalition increasingly raising alarm over the influx of outsiders and the need for constitutional safeguards.
