Eight-month-old female tiger cub released in Similipal ahead of rewilding

Bhubaneswar, Oct 5 (UNI) An eight-month-old female tiger cub rescued in Mayurbhanj district's Thakurmunda area has been released into the core of Similipal Tiger Reserve for acclimatisation, with its eventual release into the wild to depend on its progress, forest officials said on Monday.
Rescued from Kaparkhai village, the cub received veterinary care, feed and nutritional supplements at the Thakurmunda range office for seven days and subsequently showed marked improvement in health and activity.
Blood and faecal tests conducted at Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) found no disease or infection, officials said.
The cub was taken to Similipal on October 2 and released around 9 pm inside the Jamuna enclosure in the reserve's core area.
Similipal's extensive forest landscape and relatively undisturbed core provide suitable conditions for rescued wildlife to acclimatise before rewilding.
Officials said the cub is active and moving inside the enclosure. Its health, behaviour and adaptation will be monitored before a decision is taken on its release into the wild. UNI MK SAS
