Amitabh Bachchan completes 84

Mumbai, Oct 11 (UNI) Amitabh Bachchan, one of Hindi cinema’s most enduring stars, completes 84 on Sunday, marking a career that has spanned more than five decades and seen him rise from a struggling newcomer to a household name across generations.
Born on October 11, 1942, in Allahabad, Bachchan began his career as a supervisor in Kolkata, earning a monthly salary of Rs 800. He left his job in Kolkata in 1968 and moved to Mumbai. Since childhood, he had an inclination towards acting, and being influenced by Dilip Kumar, he wanted to become an actor like him. In 1969, he got his first opportunity to work in Khwaja Ahmad Abbas's film Saat Hindustani.
However, due to the film's failure, he failed to make much of an impact among audiences. In 1971, Bachchan got the opportunity to work with Rajesh Khanna in the film "Anand". Despite the presence of superstar Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan managed to attract audiences' attention. He was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for this film.
Producer Prakash Mehra's film "Zanjeer" proved to be an important film in Bachchan's film career. After the success of the film. he succeeded in making his mark in the film industry as an actor.
The interesting fact is that Bachchan got the opportunity to work in the film was by luck. In the year 1973, producer-director Mehra was searching for an actor for his film "Zanjeer". First, he requested Dev Anand for this film and later offered the work to actor Rajkumar, but for some reason, both the actors refused to work in the movie.
After the success of "Zanjeer", Bachchan started being counted as a good actor and he started being called the 'Angry Young Man' in the film industry.
The film "Deewar", directed by Yash Chopra in 1975, broke the records of all his previous films and after the success of Sholay, all the actors started to pale in comparison to him and Bachchan sat on the throne of superstar in the film industry.
People got a true idea of the heights Bachchan had reached as a superstar when, in 1982, during the shooting of producer-director Manmohan Desai's film 'Coolie', he was seriously injured and almost on the verge of death. After this, people of every caste and religion prayed for his recovery in every temple, mosque and gurudwara of the country, as if Bachchan was a part of their own family. People's prayers were answered and Amitabh soon recovered.
In the year 1984, on the request of his friend Rajiv Gandhi, he entered politics and contested the election of MP from Allahabad and was elected as an MP. Bachchan did not like politics for long and after working for three years, he resigned from the post of MP. The main reason for this was that his name was being dragged into the Bofors scam at that time. After resigning from the post of MP, Bachchan again became active in the film industry and he continued acting in films, but in the late 1990s, his films started failing, after which he kept himself away from acting till 1997.
In the year 1997, Bachchan entered the field of film production and created the ABCL banner. With this, he started acting once again through the first film produced under his banner, Mrityudaata.
After this, in the year 2000 itself, he got a chance to work in the TV program Kaun Banega Crorepati.
After the success of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Bachchan once again became the favourite actor of the audience. He was awarded the National Award for Best Actor four times and the Filmfare Award five times as the best actor.
Bachchan has also sung songs in many films. He first sang the song 'Mere Paas Aao Mere Doston' in the film "Mr Natwarlal", released in the year 1979.
Bachchan has been awarded the National Film Award for Best Actor four times and the Filmfare Award five times. He has been honoured with numerous awards, including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the Padma Shri, the Padma Bhushan, and the Padma Vibhushan. Currently, Bachchan is hosting Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC).
