Bengali film industry mourns death of veteran actress Mithu Mukherjee

Kolkata, Sep 21 (UNI) The Bengali film fraternity has expressed grief over the death of veteran actress Mithu Mukherjee, with actors Ranjit Mallick, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Jeet remembering her and paying tribute to her contribution to cinema.
Mukherjee died at a private hospital in Mumbai on Sunday night following a prolonged battle with cancer at the age of 71.
Her long-time fellow actor Ranjit Mallick, in a video posted on Instagram, spoke about the shock he felt on hearing of Mukherjee’s death.
He found it extremely difficult to come to terms with the news, especially given that the actress was significantly younger than him; consequently, the news of her sudden passing simply did not seem real to him.
"At first, I even thought the report might be incorrect, as one naturally resists believing such sudden news of a death upon first hearing it. However, only after the same news was confirmed from multiple sources did I realise that Mithu was truly gone."
The two actors worked together on a number of Bengali films, most notably the 1974 romantic comedy "Mouchak" and the following year’s "Swayamsiddha".
Prosenjit Chatterjee took to his official social media handle to mourn the passing and said her memories and body of work would continue to remain alive among audiences.
Jeet wrote, "Deeply saddened by the passing of MITHU MUKHERJEE. Her contribution to cinema will always be remembered. Heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones. Om Shanti"
