Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute short film falls short of Cannes award

Cannes, May 23 (UNI) 'A Doll Made Up of Clay' produced by Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), Kolkata has failed to win any prize in the film school competition at the 78th Cannes Film Festival.
Last year, 'Sunflowers Were the First Ones to Know' directed by Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune student Chidananda S Naik had won the top prize in La Cinef competition.
Directed by SRFTI international student Kokob Gebrehaweria Tesfay, 'A Doll Made Up of Clay' tells the story of a Nigerian footballer in Kolkata playing in the city's seven-a-side tournament.
Shot in Kolkata, the 24-minute film was one of the 16 films in La Cinef competition selected from 2,700 entries from film schools around the world.
The first prize in La Cinef awards announced last night went to South Korean film school Korean Academy of Film Arts entry, 'First Summer', directed by Heo Gayoung.
The second prize was won by Beijing Film Academy entry '12 Moments Before the Flag-raising Ceremony' directed by Qu Zhizheng.
The third prize was shared by Japanese ENBU Seminar entry 'Ginger Boy' directed by Miki Tanaka and Estonian Academy of Arts entry 'Winter in March' directed by Natalia Mirzoyan.
In 2020, FTII, Pune production 'CatDog' directed by Ashmita Guha Neogi won La Cinef's First Prize.
Thai film - 'A Useful Ghost' directed by Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke - bagged the Grand Prix, the top prize of the Critics' Week parallel programme at the Cannes Film Festival.
The Golden Eye Award for the Best Documentary presented on the sidelines of the festival went to Chechen film 'Imago' by Déni Oumar Pitsaev.
'The Six Billion Dollar Man', the story of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange by American director Eugene Jarecki, won the Jury Special Prize at the 10th edition of the Golden Eye Award.
The Palme d'Or, the top prize of the Cannes Film Festival, will be announced at the closing ceremony of the event tomorrow.
