Stage set for 72nd National Film Awards, Anant Nag to be presented Dadasaheb Phalke

Kevadiya, Sep 21 (UNI) The stage is set for the 72nd National Film Awards, which will be held at Ekta Nagar, Kevadia, Gujarat, on Tuesday, with President Droupadi Murmu presenting the prestigious honours for outstanding cinematic achievements of 2024.
The ceremony marks a shift from the national capital to Gujarat and will bring together filmmakers, actors and other members of the Indian film industry to celebrate achievements across feature films, non-feature films and writing on cinema.
A major highlight of the ceremony will be the presentation of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024 to veteran actor Anant Nag for his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema.
With a career spanning more than five decades, Nag has made a significant contribution to Kannada cinema as well as Indian cinema through a diverse body of work.
The award recognises his enduring contribution to the country's cinematic heritage.
Among the top honours, ‘Article 370’ has been adjudged Best Feature Film, while ‘Bhangaar’ has been selected as Best Non-Feature Film and ‘Ram-Nami’ as Best Documentary.
The acting honours will see Mammootty for ‘Bramayugam’ and Kartik Aaryan for ‘Chandu Champion’ being recognised in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category.
Yami Gautam has been selected for Best Actress in a Leading Role for 'Article 370'.
The awards will also recognise emerging filmmaking talent, with Randeep Hooda chosen for Best Debut Director for 'Swatantrya Veer Savarkar'.
Several commercially successful and critically acclaimed films will feature among the award winners in different categories. These include ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, ‘Amaran’, ‘Pushpa: The Rule Part-02’, ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ and ‘Stree 2’, reflecting the range of genres and filmmaking styles represented in the awards.
The National Film Awards, instituted in 1954, are among India's most prestigious honours for cinematic excellence. They recognise outstanding work across India's diverse linguistic and regional film industries, besides honouring achievements in non-feature filmmaking and writing on cinema.
