Delhi Police busts Rs 3.93 cr cyber fraud, seven arrested

New Delhi, Oct 27 (UNI) The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police Special Cell, cracked a major cyber-fraud case involving the alleged unauthorised takeover of a bank account and fraudulent transactions amounting to approximately Rs 3.93 crore.
In this crackdown, seven accused have been arrested during the investigation, which has revealed an alleged network involved in arranging mule bank accounts, withdrawing cash and transferring suspected proceeds of crime through multiple layers.
The investigation has also revealed alleged links of a key accused with a foreign money-exchange application and a hawala channel used for the suspected conversion and movement of proceeds of crime, a senior police official said.
A case was registered on October 5 at Police Station Special Cell, New Delhi, on the complainant of a 28-year-old who deals in NBFC and loan-related transactions and maintains a bank account with a private bank, who reported that 149 unauthorised transactions took place in his bank account without his knowledge or consent.
Approximately Rs 3,93,59,000 was debited from the account, and the NCRP portal marked a lien/hold amount of Rs 1.78 crore.
A dedicated team was constituted to investigate the case, trace the money trail and identify the persons involved.
During the probe, the team undertook seven days of continuous outstation investigation, travelling to Bikaner, Jodhpur and other relevant locations in Rajasthan. A significant breakthrough was achieved with the apprehension of a man named Brij Lal, who was also wanted in another cyber-fraud case registered with IFSO.
The investigation revealed that victim's bank account was allegedly accessed or taken over without authorisation, resulting in 149 unauthorised transactions.
The suspected proceeds of crime were transferred through multiple layers of bank accounts allegedly arranged or operated by different persons to complicate the tracing of funds.
Certain accused allegedly withdrew substantial amounts from the mule accounts and handed the cash over to other persons in the network.
Investigation into Lal’s role revealed alleged connections with a money-exchange application, and a hawala channel reportedly used for the onward movement and conversion of funds into USDT. During the investigation, 45 cheque books, 25 bank passbooks, 45 ATM Cardsm, and 13 mobile phones have been recovered.
The recovered articles are relevant to the investigation into the alleged use of bank accounts, movement of funds and possible links among the persons involved, while their significance in this matter is being examined. UNI APS CDS
