Police nabs dumper driver, company announces Rs 3 lakh aid for each deceased in Sarita Vihar CCTV workers' accident

New Delhi, Sept 21 (UNI) Police arrested the driver of a dumper, who allegedly hit a crane and an autorickshaw, killing four workers engaged in CCTV installation work in southeast Delhi’s Sarita Vihar area, an official said on Monday.
According to police, the owner of the dumper company is under interrogation and has agreed to pay compensation of Rs 3 lakh each to the family of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh each to the two injured in the incident.
On Sunday, the accident took place between 2.30 am -3 am near Kalindi Hospital in Sarita Vihar when a Delhi Traffic Police camera-maintenance team was working by the roadside, police said.
The dumper was allegedly being driven rashly and rammed the pickup vehicle fitted from behind, the FIR stated. Following the impact, the vehicle hit the auto-rickshaw parked ahead, knocking down workers who were standing on the lift of the pickup vehicle, police said.
The accused driver, identified as Vinod Kumar, 42, a resident of Etah in Uttar Pradesh, who has now been arrested, fled the spot after the accident, abandoning the vehicle, police said.
Vikash Bhadana, proprietor of Sagar Bhadana & Co., owner of the dumper, and a resident of Faridabad was served a notice and is being questioned, police added.
Officials identified the four people killed in the accident as Umesh, 23, Praveen Kumar, 35, Suraj Singh, 34, and Akash, 20. Anup, 26, and Khem Singh, 40, were the two injured. Sudhir, another worker present at the site, escaped unhurt, police said.
Both the deceased and injured were associated with the team engaged in maintaining or installing CCTV infrastructure, officials said.
Police said the injured are receiving medical treatment at Apollo Hospital free of cost. Besides the compensation, the company has agreed to bear the medical expenses for the injured, they said.
Documentation is also being prepared to file compensation claims before the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT), police said.
A case has been registered at Sarita Vihar police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita with further investigation is underway. UNI MBJ CDS
