Delhi govt rolls out comprehensive slum rehabilitation plan

New Delhi, Nov 5 (UNI) Delhi's slum dwellers will have to pay a combined Rs 2 lakh towards rehabilitation housing and maintenance, meet stringent documentary requirements linked to a January 1, 2025 cut-off and face possible relocation anywhere in the capital under a sweeping new policy that also seeks to reclaim encroached government land for redevelopment.
The Delhi government has notified the Delhi Slum and Jhuggi Jhopri Relocation and Rehabilitation Policy, 2026, introducing a comprehensive framework for rehabilitating eligible residents in a city with approximately 675 slum settlements.
The policy, published in the Delhi Gazette on November 4, supersedes earlier rehabilitation guidelines and orders issued under the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) Act, 2010.
