CBSE schools to mobilise students for 6 yrs of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan

New Delhi, Nov 5 (UNI) The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has asked all its affiliated schools to step up efforts to prevent substance abuse among students and participate in nationwide mobilisation activities marking six years of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA).
In a circular, the Board called upon schools to encourage students and teachers to take the NMBA e-pledge, organise awareness and sensitisation activities, and participate virtually in a national-level programme commemorating the campaign's six-year journey.
Launched on August 15, 2020, under the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction, the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan aims to raise awareness about the harmful effects of substance abuse, particularly among youth, women and educational institutions.
As part of the nationwide initiative, schools have been asked to designate a nodal teacher to coordinate activities and ensure their effective implementation and reporting. Institutions may also upload brief details of their activities, along with photographs and videos, through the reporting link specified by the Board.
The national-level programme will be organised by the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, with its date, time and participation details to be communicated separately.
The campaign's accompanying concept note proposes a three-month nationwide awareness and mobilisation drive following the national programme. It envisages mobilising 10 crore citizens through pledges and on-ground activities, with participation from schools, higher education institutions, government departments, community organisations and civil society groups.
The proposed activities include awareness drives, youth engagement, cultural and sports programmes, street plays, exhibitions and community mobilisation. The concept note also emphasises the participation of Nasha Mukti Mitras and people in recovery to strengthen the campaign by drawing on lived experiences.
The CBSE has urged schools to actively involve students and teachers in the initiative, contributing towards a healthier, more aware and drug-free India.
