NCERT introduces AI module for Classes 9–12, focuses on misinformation and data privacy

New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI): Amid growing concerns over AI-generated misinformation, data privacy and students’ increasing dependence on digital technology, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has developed a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Thinking (CT) module for Classes 9 to 12, emphasising critical verification of AI-generated information and responsible technology use.
Announced on October 23, the module aims to equip students with the skills to question AI-generated outputs, understand their limitations and identify potential risks associated with emerging technologies.
Developed under the Ministry of Education and aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the introductory module is designed for students with no prior knowledge of AI.
Significantly, NCERT has placed special emphasis on misinformation, data privacy, fairness, digital safety and ethical responsibility, signalling that students must learn to evaluate AI-generated content rather than accept it without scrutiny.
“The module encourages students to become informed, confident, and responsible users of technology, while reinforcing that human judgement, creativity, and ethical responsibility remain central to learning,” NCERT said in its official release.
The council said computational thinking would be introduced as a systematic approach to problem-solving, helping students develop analytical skills alongside an understanding of AI applications, possibilities and limitations.
In a move aimed at ensuring wider participation, NCERT has designed the learning activities to be conducted even without computers or other digital devices, allowing schools with limited technological infrastructure to introduce students to AI concepts.
The module adopts an experiential and activity-based approach, incorporating classroom discussions, practical exercises, experimentation and reflection instead of relying exclusively on conventional textbook instruction.
The initiative marks an effort to address the growing challenge of preparing schoolchildren for an increasingly AI-driven environment while ensuring that technological dependence does not undermine independent thinking and human judgement.
The absence of an implementation timeline leaves open questions about classroom adoption, teacher preparedness and the availability of supporting learning material, particularly in schools with limited digital resources.
The announcement nevertheless places AI literacy, misinformation awareness and digital responsibility among the emerging priorities of secondary and senior secondary education in India.

New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI) In a small Greek restaurant in Cambridge, far from India and long before destiny placed them at the centre of its political history, a young Sonia met a young Rajiv Gandhi. It was an ordinary encounter in an English university town, introduced by a common friend, but one that would quietly change the course of two lives. Nearly six decades later, Sonia Gandhi has returned to that tender beginning, opening a window into a world that belonged to the two of them alone — a world of love, laughter, companionship and cherished memories that time has carried forward, even as t.
