CAQM proposes action against non-compliant Construction & Demolition projects, industrial units, 25 diesel generator sets across NCR

New Delhi, Sep 15 (UNI) The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has proposed closure of three construction and demolition (C&D) projects and an industrial unit, besides sealing 25 diesel generator (DG) sets, following inspections across the National Capital Region, officials said Tuesday.
The proposed enforcement action was reviewed at the 139th meeting of CAQM’s Enforcement Task Force (ETF), covering inspections and compliance during the 15 days from August 24 to September 7.
Officials conducted 150 inspections during the period, including seven at C&D sites, 98 in the industrial sector and 45 involving DG sets.
Earlier, eight CAQM Flying Squad teams, along with district administration, police and Haryana State Pollution Control Board officials, inspected 35 premises in Nuh on September 3. Of these, 13 were found compliant, while seven units were locked and will be re-inspected, officials said.
The teams have recommended a personal hearing in one case, sealing of a DG set in another, orders in seven cases and environmental compensation in six cases, the statement read.
The ETF has also proposed compliance directions in one C&D case, two industrial cases and three DG-related cases involving 10 DG sets.
Environmental compensation has been proposed in two industrial cases, while other cases have been marked for re-inspection, prosecution or referral to the Central Pollution Control Board, as applicable.
The meeting also reviewed six resumption orders issued since the previous ETF meeting, one involving an industrial unit and five C&D sites. Three each were issued in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
According to the updated enforcement status, CAQM Flying Squads have so far inspected 28,547 units, projects and entities across NCR.
Closure directions have been issued against 1,829 entities, of which 1,479 have subsequently received resumption orders after compliance verification, said the officials.
Another 126 cases have been referred to state pollution control boards or the Delhi Pollution Control Committee for a final decision, while 224 entities remain under examination for resumption orders.
The commission directed agencies to step up inspections and ensure timely compliance verification, particularly in industrial units, C&D activities, and DG-set operations.
