IIC arts festival to explore ecology, existence through music, dance, films

New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI) The India International Centre’s 22nd annual arts festival, 'IIC Experience: A Festival of the Arts', will be held here from October 29 to November 3, bringing together music, dance, visual arts, cinema and culinary traditions around the theme “Prakriti: Ecology and Existence”.
The six-day festival will explore the relationship between nature and humanity, the challenges posed by climate change, and the links between ecological sustainability and traditional livelihoods, organisers said.
The festival will open on October 29 with an exhibition titled “Prakriti: Harmonising Inner and Outer Worlds in South Asian Texts and Traditions”, followed by a keynote address by art historian Naman P Ahuja. The exhibition will examine the ways in which South Asian texts and traditions have understood and represented the relationship between the inner world of human experience and the natural environment.
Music and dance will form a major part of the programme, with performances by some of India’s leading classical artistes. These include Scent of the Earth, a Bharatanatyam recital by Alarmel Valli on October 30, a solo recital by Baul singer Maa Parvathy Baul, a Rudra Veena recital by Ustad Mohi Bahauddin Dagar, and a Hindustani vocal recital by Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty.
Cinema enthusiasts will have an opportunity to attend 'Stories on Screen', a film segment featuring 13 screenings spanning popular cinema, animation and independent filmmaking. The selection includes Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, the animated feature The Red Turtle, Muzaffar Ali’s Umrao Jaan and the satirical comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, alongside independent films.
The festival will also explore India’s culinary diversity through 'Journeys Across India', a programme showcasing regional food cultures and distinctive culinary traditions.
The offerings will include a “Taste of Kalinga”, food traditions from Jharkhand, Afghan cuisine, French-themed dining, and coastal flavours from Konkan to Malabar.
By bringing together artistic expression, traditional knowledge, food and cinema, the festival seeks to examine how cultural practices reflect humanity’s relationship with the natural world.
Its central theme places ecological concerns within a wider cultural context, connecting environmental change with everyday life, inherited traditions and ways of living.
The annual IIC Experience has become a platform for presenting diverse artistic practices and cultural traditions, drawing audiences into encounters with India’s classical and folk arts as well as international influences.
This year’s edition places ecology at the centre of that engagement, using the arts to explore questions of coexistence, sustainability and the changing relationship between people and their environment.
The festival will run at the India International Centre from October 29 to November 3.
