India welcomes reported ceasefire between Israel, Iran, says willing to play role in peace efforts

New Delhi, June 24 (UNI) India on Tuesday welcomed the reports of ceasefire between Israel and Iran and the role played by US and Qatar in bringing it about, reiterating that there is no alternative to

dialogue and diplomacy to resolve multiple conflicts in the region.

A spokesman of the External Affairs Ministry said India stands ready to play its part in these efforts and hopes that all concerned parties will work towards sustained peace and stability.

'We welcome reports of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel and the role played by the US and

Qatar in bringing it about,' the spokesman said while expressing 'deep concern' at the prospects

for overall and sustained regional security and stability.

The spokesman said India has been following developments overnight relating to the conflict between Iran and Israel, including the US action against Iran’s nuclear facilities and Iranian retaliation against US military bases in Qatar and remains deeply concerned about the prospects for overall and sustained regional security and stability.

'India stands ready to play its part in these efforts and hopes that all concerned parties will work towards sustained peace and stability,' the spokesman added.
