SCBA 2025 Elections: Vikas Singh re-elected President, Pragya Baghel becomes 4th woman Secretary in 75 years

New Delhi, May 20 (UNI) In a significant outcome of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections for 2025-26, Senior Advocate Vikas Singh has been re-elected as President for the fourth time, reaffirming his leadership within one of India’s most influential legal bodies.
Singh secured victory against prominent contenders Senior Advocates Pradeep Rai and Adish Agarwala.
He previously served as SCBA President in 2017-18, 2021-22, and 2022-23. Last year’s President was Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal.
Joining Singh in the new leadership team are Vice-President: Senior Advocate Rahul Kaushik; Honorary Secretary, Advocate Pragya Baghel; and Treasurer, Advocate Vikrant Yadav.
Advocate Pragya Baghel has created history by becoming the fourth woman in 75 years to be elected as the Honorary Secretary of the SCBA.
She joins the list of trailblazers - Priya Hingorani, the first woman in 50 years to hold the post, followed by Parena Swarup and Aishwarya Bhatti.
This is a proud moment for the legal fraternity, and we look forward to many more women, especially from the younger generation, stepping into leadership roles in the future.
As per the Supreme Court’s direction passed on May 6, 2025, the Secretary post was reserved for a woman candidate this year, marking a progressive shift.
In addition, 1/3rd of the Executive Committee (3 out of 9) and 1/3rd of the Senior Executive Members (2 out of 6) were also reserved for women candidates.
A growing sentiment among SCBA voters is that office bearers should serve a two-year term instead of one.
Whether the Supreme Court will issue directions on this in the future remains to be seen. The results for the posts of Joint Secretary, Joint Treasurer, Senior Executive Members (6 posts) and Executive Members (9 posts) are expected to be declared tomorrow.
As the new leadership steps in, expectations are high for a dynamic and inclusive year ahead at the SCBA.
