Look forward to strengthening ties: PM Modi congratulates Canadian PM Mark Carney on poll victory

New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today congratulated Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberal Party on winning the country’s federal election.

In a post on X, PM Modi said he looks forward to working with the Canadian PM to strengthen the bilateral partnership and unlock greater opportunities for their people.

“Congratulations @MarkJCarney on your election as the Prime Minister of Canada and to the Liberal Party on their victory.

“India and Canada are bound by shared democratic values, a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, and vibrant people-to-people ties.

“I look forward to working with you to strengthen our partnership and unlock greater opportunities for our people.”

Notably, bilateral ties between India and Canada had soured greatly under Carney’s predecessor, Justin Trudeau, who unabashedly pandered to the Khalistani elements in the ruling alliance in hurling accusations at India and hurting the ties.
