PM Modi to launch garment unit, witness Air Show in Varanasi, open RBI Data Centre in Bhubaneswar

New Delhi, Oct 24 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Uttar Pradesh and Odisha on Sunday to inaugurate a new garment manufacturing facility in Varanasi, witness a spectacular aerial display by the Indian Air Force over the Ganga and inaugurate the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) state-of-the-art Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, highlighting the government’s focus on employment generation, defence capabilities and financial security.
According to a press note issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday, Modi will inaugurate Arvind Limited’s garment manufacturing facility in Varanasi at around 11 am before attending the Air Force Day Aerial Display-2026 at Namo Ghat at around 1 pm as the chief guest. He will subsequently travel to Bhubaneswar, where he is scheduled to inaugurate the RBI’s new facilities at around 4.45 pm and address the gathering.
The garment manufacturing unit is expected to strengthen the textile and apparel industry in eastern Uttar Pradesh, generate employment opportunities, particularly for women, and expand the region’s industrial base. The project reflects the broader emphasis on extending manufacturing activities beyond established industrial centres and attracting investment to regions with considerable potential for employment-led growth.
With Arvind Limited’s established international customer base, the facility is expected to connect garments manufactured in Varanasi with global markets, giving the city a greater role in international apparel supply chains. Its predominantly women-led workforce is also expected to advance women’s participation in organised manufacturing, create new livelihood opportunities and contribute to household incomes and the regional economy. The initiative seeks to link local production with national and international markets while enabling workers in the region to benefit from expanding industrial activity.
From Varanasi, Modi will witness the Indian Air Force’s Air Force Day Aerial Display-2026 at Namo Ghat, organised to commemorate the 94th anniversary of the force under the theme “Wings over Ganges”. The event will bring an extensive military aviation display to the banks of the Ganga, showcasing the flying skills, operational capabilities and coordination of the Indian Air Force and other participating services.
The aerial display is scheduled to feature a range of combat, transport and rotary-wing aircraft, including the indigenous Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand, Su-30MKI and Rafale fighter jets, along with transport aircraft. Aircraft from the Indian Navy and the Indian Army will also participate, underscoring the growing emphasis on jointness and coordination among the three services.
The programme will feature performances by the Indian Air Force’s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team and Sarang Helicopter Display Team. The Surya Kiran team is renowned for its precision aerobatics and complex formation flying, while Sarang is known for its synchronised helicopter manoeuvres. Their performances, alongside demonstrations by frontline fighter aircraft and other military platforms, are expected to showcase the breadth of India’s military aviation capabilities.
The event will also highlight the growing importance of indigenous defence platforms, including the Tejas fighter aircraft and Prachand helicopter, as India seeks to strengthen domestic defence manufacturing and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers. Beyond the public spectacle, the anniversary display will demonstrate the discipline, technical expertise, operational preparedness and coordination required for modern air operations.
Modi’s final engagement will be in Bhubaneswar, where he will inaugurate the RBI’s newly established Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute. The facilities are intended to strengthen the technological infrastructure supporting India’s banking and financial system at a time when digital payments, online banking and technology-driven financial services have become integral to economic activity.
The new infrastructure has been designed to meet the RBI’s computing requirements and provide a secure, resilient, scalable and future-ready digital ecosystem for the central bank and the wider financial sector. As financial institutions increasingly depend on interconnected digital platforms, the reliability of data infrastructure and the ability to defend against cyber threats have become critical to maintaining public confidence and ensuring uninterrupted financial services.
The data centre infrastructure will comprise four state-of-the-art data centres designed to host mission-critical payment and settlement systems, alongside other flagship initiatives. According to the official description, the facility has received certification to the Uptime Institute’s Tier IV standard, an internationally recognised benchmark for data centre infrastructure and operational resilience. The RBI describes it as among the largest Tier IV-certified facilities in the banking, financial services and insurance sector worldwide.
The facility is expected to strengthen the availability, efficiency and reliability of digital financial services while providing a secure technological foundation for an increasingly digital economy. Payment and settlement systems are central to the functioning of the modern financial system, connecting banks, businesses, government services and individual users. Disruptions to these systems can have wider economic consequences, making resilient infrastructure essential for safeguarding sensitive information and ensuring the smooth execution of financial transactions.
The new data centre is intended to enhance the RBI’s capacity to manage critical financial data, support growing transaction volumes and reinforce the continuity of essential financial services. Its infrastructure will also address the central bank’s evolving computing needs as the financial sector expands its use of digital technologies.
Alongside the data centre, the Cybersecurity Training Institute will provide a dedicated platform for specialised training, research and capability development in cybersecurity and enterprise technology. Its areas of focus will include emerging technologies relevant to banking and financial services, such as quantum computing and artificial intelligence, as well as other frontier technologies that could reshape financial operations and security requirements.
The institute is expected to help develop specialised expertise in identifying cyber threats, strengthening digital defences and preparing financial institutions to respond to risks arising from increasingly complex technological systems. As banks and other financial entities expand online services and adopt advanced digital tools, the demand for trained cybersecurity professionals, robust security practices and continuous research has grown significantly.
By bringing advanced computing infrastructure and specialised cybersecurity training together, the RBI aims to strengthen the technological foundations of the country’s financial system and improve its preparedness for emerging digital risks. The initiative is also expected to support the development of expertise needed to protect financial networks and maintain confidence in digital transactions.
Modi’s engagements in Varanasi and Bhubaneswar will thus bring together three important strands of national development: employment-generating manufacturing, military aviation and the modernisation of financial infrastructure. While the garment facility is intended to expand industrial opportunities and connect local production with international markets, the Air Force display will showcase India’s military aviation capabilities and coordination among the armed services. The RBI’s new facilities, meanwhile, are designed to reinforce the security, resilience and technological preparedness of the country’s banking and financial system.
The programme across the two states will combine industrial investment and employment generation with a public demonstration of defence capabilities and a major step in strengthening the digital infrastructure underpinning India’s financial services. UNI SKA AAB
