Kharge accuses Modi govt of ‘vote-bandi’, demands immediate removal of CEC Gyanesh Kumar

New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday accused the Narendra Modi government of attempting to deprive eligible citizens, particularly the poor and young people, of their right to vote and alleged that the Election Commission of India had been reduced to a tool of the ruling establishment.
Addressing the Congress Working Committee (CWC) in New Delhi, Kharge demanded the immediate removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and said the Congress would take its campaign to protect democracy and the Constitution “from the streets to Parliament”. His remarks came amid the continuing political controversy over the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and reported differences within the poll panel.
Kharge said the Congress had once again been entrusted with a historic responsibility to safeguard democratic institutions, drawing a parallel with the party’s role during the freedom struggle.
