Rahul Gandhi calls for mass mobilisation at Ramlila Maidan on November 1, says 'our votes are being stolen'

New Delhi, Oct 25 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday called upon students, farmers, workers, women, young people, traders and all those concerned about the future of democracy to join the INDIA bloc's 'Chalo Dilli' march and mega rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1, seeking to turn the Opposition's 'vote chori' campaign into a wider public movement against alleged electoral irregularities.
In a post on social media platform X, Rahul Gandhi alleged that voters' names were being deleted from electoral rolls, rules and laws were being violated, and those raising questions about the alleged irregularities were facing police action. "Our votes are being stolen, and we will not tolerate this silently under any circumstances," he declared, urging citizens across social and occupational groups to join the proposed mobilisation.
"Now the country will give the answer," Rahul Gandhi said, announcing the November 1 programme under the slogans 'Save the Vote, Save the Country' and 'Chalo Dilli'. The march will culminate in a mega rally at Ramlila Maidan in the national capital, where the Congress and its INDIA bloc partners intend to intensify their campaign over the integrity of elections and the protection of citizens' democratic rights.
Appealing for broad-based participation, Rahul Gandhi called on students, farmers, workers, women, young people and traders, as well as everyone concerned about democracy, to join the rally. "The vote is yours. The fight is yours too," he said, portraying the mobilisation as a collective struggle to protect voting rights rather than merely a confrontation between the ruling BJP and the Opposition.
In a sarcastic swipe at the BJP and its allies, Rahul Gandhi also thanked them for what he described as their vigorous publicity for the proposed programme, suggesting that their efforts were helping spread the message to a wider audience. He urged them to sustain the same enthusiasm over the next seven days, as the Congress seeks to build momentum ahead of the rally.
The proposed mobilisation comes amid a series of protests and political initiatives by the Congress and other INDIA bloc constituents over alleged irregularities in electoral rolls, the deletion of voters' names and the functioning of the Election Commission of India. The Opposition has repeatedly questioned the transparency of electoral roll preparation and revision, demanding greater accountability from the poll authorities. The Election Commission has maintained that electoral processes are governed by established legal and constitutional procedures.
The Congress has made 'vote chori' a central theme of its political campaign, arguing that the credibility of elections depends on every eligible citizen being able to exercise the right to vote without arbitrary exclusion. The party and its allies have sought to bring their concerns over electoral rolls into the public domain through demonstrations, political outreach and demands for institutional accountability.
By appealing to people beyond party cadres, Rahul Gandhi is seeking to broaden the campaign and build public pressure around the larger question of electoral integrity. The November 1 march and rally at Ramlila Maidan are expected to provide the INDIA bloc with a platform to reiterate its allegations, press for greater transparency in the electoral process and argue that safeguarding every eligible citizen's vote is essential to protecting the country's democratic institutions.
