Congress demands Parliamentary probe into Dahod plant contract

New Delhi, June 23 (UNI) The Congress on Monday accused Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw of a 'conflict of interest' and demanded the contract for the Dahod rail engine plant in Gujarat be investigated by a Parliamentary committee.

Senior party leader Brijendra Singh, while addressing a press conference here, claimed that Ashwini Vaishnaw's decisions clearly indicate a "conflict of interest."

He alleged that the multinational company Siemens, which was awarded the contract for the Dahod plant, had Vaishnaw as its Vice President in the past. Therefore, the Congress is demanding the formation of a Parliamentary inquiry committee to ensure transparency in the entire matter.

He said that a 9,000-horsepower locomotive engine plant in Dahod, Gujarat, has been set up under an agreement with the multinational company Siemens, which has been awarded a contract worth around Rs 26,000 crore. The company is required to supply 1,200 railway engines over a period of about 11 years.

He alleged that due process was not followed in awarding the contract and that the entire deal lacks transparency.

The former IAS officer said a clear conflict of interest is evident in the entire process. The Railway Minister once served as Vice President of Siemens Locomotives in India, and the same company has been awarded the largest contract in history.

He claimed that this contract does not align with the Modi government's 'Make in India' initiative.

The Congress leader further stated that the tendering process was not followed properly and the names of the companies that submitted bids were not disclosed. UNI RBE SSP
