CJP condemns action on party leaders, demands release of Ranka & Das

New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and the All India Students’ Association (AISA) today held a joint press conference, and condemned the police action during the recent protests, while they also raised concerns over the alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the poll rolls.
Addressing the media, founder of CJP Abhijeet Dipke questioned why was the entire national capital shut just to protect one man, CEC Gyanesh Kumar, while the party has given a call to join its proposed “Lehra Do Tiranga” at Connaught Place, on Friday, to peacefully hoist the national flag and exercise their democratic right to dissent.
He alleged that the situation in Delhi was made tense by suspending the railway and Metro services during the recent protest call given by the party on October 10, while also condemned the police action on protesters, who comprised of students, and opposition leaders.
Dipke also questioned as to why were the CJP leaders, including Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, were arrested and sent to jail after entering Jantar Mantar carrying the national flag.
“Unfurling the Tiranga is not a crime,” Dipke said, while questioning the arrests of his party leaders.
CJP reiterated their key demands including resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged SIR irregularities; the release of Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das and all detained peaceful protesters; and an end to police brutality, alongside the restoration of Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site.
Actor-activist Prakash Raj, who was also present at the press conference, alleged the poll roll revision exercise was being used to erase certain people from the electoral lists.
He also questioned de-notification of Jantar Mantar as a protest site, calling it an attempt to curtail the right to public dissent.
It was on Tuesday that during the morning hours, Sourav Das, Ashutosh Ranka, Ajinkya Shinde and 11 other members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) had reached Jantar Mantar, which had been de-notified as designated protest site, while they had allegedly trespassed into the venue through a private premise, the sources had said.
The three CJP leaders were arrested and had been produced before the Special Executive Magistrate (SEM), where proceedings under Sections 126/170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were initiated, and after considering the matter, the concerned court had remanded Saurabh Das and Ashutosh Ranka to five days of judicial custody, while Shinde was bound down to maintain peace and good behaviour for six months on personal bond and surety of Rs 5,000.
