Opposition to march to EC with ‘146 MPs’ as Derek O’Brien demands CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s removal

New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) More than 146 Opposition MPs will march from Parliament to the Election Commission on Tuesday in protest against the poll panel, Trinamool Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien said on Monday, drawing a parallel with the mass suspension of 146 Opposition MPs during the 2023 Winter Session and demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
“Sweet irony. Tuesday, 146 MPs march in protest from Parliament to EC. GK must GO,” O’Brien said in a post on social media platform X.
Linking Tuesday’s proposed mobilisation with the events of 2023, O’Brien alleged that the suspension of 146 Opposition MPs had enabled the BJP-led government to push through legislation changing the mechanism for appointing the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners.
