INDIA Bloc announces nationwide ‘Save Democracy’ campaign, sets Oct 6 march to EC

New Delhi, Sep 30 (UNI) The INDIA bloc on Wednesday announced a coordinated nationwide campaign against the Election Commission, with opposition parties deciding to hold “Save Democracy” marches and demonstrations across the country from October 2 to 8, march to the poll panel’s headquarters in New Delhi on October 6 and organise a major rally in the national capital on November 1 over what they described as threats to the integrity of the electoral process.
Announcing the joint action programme after a nearly three-hour meeting of the alliance at the Constitution Club of India, Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said the parties had unanimously decided to demand the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, a rollback of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and restoration of pre-SIR electoral rolls for future elections.
Kharge said the INDIA bloc had decided to take the campaign beyond political parties by involving people, youth, civil society groups, non-governmental organisations and other organisations committed to “unity and democracy”.

Calling the ECI issue that INDIA Bloc has been raising a "dispute between the Gandhi-Vadra family and the people of India," BJP’s Pradeep Bhandari claimed the “Congress party is fighting against ‘We, the People of India’”
“This battle is between the Congress party, its workers and the Gandhi-Vadra family; and the people of India, who are silently witnessing the party’s hooliganism,” he said.
