If electoral democracy is crushed, it is time for regime change: Prashant Bhushan

New Delhi, Oct 15 (UNI) Senior Advocate and former member of the Aam Aadmi Party Prashant Bhushan on Thursday said that it was time to call for a "regime change" if attempts are made to crush electoral democracy by the current regime through irregularities in the poll roll revision exercise or other ways.
Addressing a press conference along with CJP and AISA leaders here in the national capital, Bhushan said that government is calling the protests as "Opposition's operation of regime change".
"We are only appealing to save the electoral democracy in this country. If such barbarism continues, there will definitely be a regime change,” he claimed. The senior advocate further said that people want regime change, and there is nothing wrong in that, as it is a democratic right of citizens.
He alleged there were several irregularities in the SIR. What the poll panel was doing was questionable, he added.
Bhushan condemned the police response to peaceful demonstrators, citing videos of alleged arbitrary detentions. He also challenged the de-notification of Jantar Mantar as a protest site, calling it an attempt to curtail the constitutional right to public dissent.
Meanwhile, AISA leader Neha Bora who was also present, said the movement was expanding to major cities, including Mumbai, and asserted that police action and intimidation would not deter citizens from demanding electoral accountability.
