FIR against Rahul Gandhi, others over 'forceful entry' into Akashvani premises

New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) Delhi Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra and various others involved in allegedly entering the Akashvani main office campus on Tuesday, sources said.
On Tuesday, INDIA bloc leaders, led by Rahul Gandhi, were stopped near NITI Aayog while marching towards the Election Commission office. They allegedly forced their way into the Akashvani Bhavan premises along the route.
Sources say that they have been booked for alleged trespassing following a complaint, and as per police sources, action is being taken in this connection as staging such a protest inside the premises was questionable.
Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and several other opposition leaders remained seated inside the Akashvani premises before they were eventually detained and taken away from the site on Tuesday night.
Police had asked the protestors to disperse as they headed towards the poll panel’s office; however, trying to breach the barricades, they attempted to move forward, and later, several of them, including the LoP, had entered Akashvani Bhawan.
They allegedly forcefully entered through the small gate, which is manned by a guard and is used for those entering the compound on foot.
Despite repeated requests from senior police officers to come out of the premises, the opposition leaders staged a sit-in dharna for hours, prior to their detention and being taken away by the cops from the spot.
The INDIA bloc leaders demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, questioning the manner in which the SIR exercise had been conducted.
