Searchable voter rolls vindicate Rahul Gandhi’s campaign, says Congress; demands Gyanesh Kumar’s removal and halt to SIR

New Delhi, 18 (UNI) The Congress on Sunday claimed that the Election Commission of India’s decision to provide electoral rolls in searchable format to political parties had vindicated the sustained campaign led by Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi against alleged electoral irregularities.
The party, however, said the move was not enough and demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, a comprehensive overhaul of the poll panel and the immediate suspension of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the exercise threatened the voting rights of more than 13 crore Indians.
In a strongly worded statement, the Congress said Rahul Gandhi and the party had been “persistent, insistent and consistent” over the past two years in demanding that the Election Commission make searchable electoral rolls available to all political parties. It alleged that the poll panel had repeatedly rejected the demand and stopped providing searchable voter lists in 2018 after the Congress detected lakhs of allegedly bogus voters in Madhya Pradesh.
