New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) India has won the bid to host of the 2029 World Police and Fire Games(WPFG), and will become the first south Asian country to organise the games.
The host city of the 2029 edition of the games, which were initiated in 1985 will be Ahmedabad.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed happiness on the development
“It is a moment of great pride for every citizen, as Bharat has been designated as the host country for the prestigious 2029 World Police and Fire Games,” he wrote in a post on X.
He added that Ahmedabad, which has been selected as the venue for the Games, stands as a testament to the city’s growing stature as a premier sporting destination.
“Bharat winning the prestigious bid to host the event is a global recognition of our sprawling sports infrastructure built under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi Ji. Ahmedabad being selected as the venue of the event that brings together police, fire, and disaster services to compete in more than 50 sports is a testament to the city's rising stature as a sporting destination,” the Home Minister said.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel echoed his sentiments, as he wrote on X
"India has won the bid to host the 2029 World Police & Fire Games (WPFG) in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar & Ekta Nagar, following a comprehensive bid presentation to the WPFG Federation in Birmingham, USA,"
India, has also expressed its interest in organising the Olympic Games for the first time in 2036, successfully organising global tournaments like WPFG is likely to strengthen India’s bid.
