Cong leader Devender Yadav alleges unauthorised Form 8 filing, seeks probe into electoral roll process

New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav on Wednesday alleged that a Form 8 seeking correction of his electoral roll particulars was submitted before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) of Badli Assembly constituency without his knowledge or authorisation, and demanded a probe into the matter.
The Congress leader said he became aware of the purported filing only after receiving an OTP message on his mobile phone linked to the Election Commission’s ECINET platform. He alleged that neither he nor anyone authorised by him had submitted a Form 8 application for any correction in his electoral roll particulars.
In complaints submitted to the Chief Electoral Officer, Delhi, and the SHO of Samaipur Badli police station, Yadav sought an investigation into what he termed an unauthorised use of the electoral roll revision process and demanded that an FIR be registered if wrongdoing was established. “If such a fraud can happen to an ex-Councillor, ex-MLA and currently President of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee like me, what would be the plight of lakhs of poor voters?” Yadav asked, alleging that the incident raised serious questions about the safeguards in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
He said the incident had reinforced concerns repeatedly raised by Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over irregularities in the handling of Forms 7 and 8 during the revision of electoral rolls. According to Yadav, Form 7 is used for seeking deletion of a name from the electoral roll, while Form 8 is used for corrections or changes in electoral roll particulars. Yadav alleged that the incident was an example of the possible misuse of the SIR process and expressed concern that ordinary voters could be more vulnerable to errors or unauthorised changes in their electoral records.
He urged the Chief Electoral Officer to ascertain who submitted the Form 8 application in his name, examine the circumstances under which it was processed and initiate legal action against those responsible. The DPCC chief also reiterated Congress's allegations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, claiming that the SIR exercise was being misused to affect voters' names and electoral records. He linked the alleged incident to the broader political controversy surrounding the revision of electoral rolls and Rahul Gandhi's allegations of “vote theft”.
