Haryana to invest nearly ₹6,000 crore in modernising canal network; focus on cutting water losses, ensuring tail-end supply: Shruti Chaudhary

Panchkula, Sept 29 (UNI) Haryana is set to undertake a major overhaul of its canal irrigation network with a World Bank-backed project worth nearly ₹6,000 crore, aimed at curbing water losses and ensuring that canal water reaches farmers at the tail end of the distribution system, Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Shruti Chaudhary said on Tuesday.
Talking to mediapersons in Tosham before inaugurating and laying foundation stones of development projects, Chaudhary said the project had received the state Cabinet's approval on August 13 and would give a new shape to Haryana's canal infrastructure.
She said the focus would be on modernising the canal system, reducing seepage and other losses and improving the distribution of water so that farmers at the tail end do not remain deprived of their allocated supply.
