Haryana Minister orders electricity XEN’s transfer over alleged irregularities, cracks down on official lapses

Ambala, Oct 15 (UNI) Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij on Thursday ordered the transfer of an electricity department executive engineer over alleged irregularities in power connections, reprimanded senior officials for administrative lapses and directed investigations into complaints involving cyber fraud, suspected murder, school recognition violations and stalled civic projects.
The action came during a public grievance hearing at the PWD Rest House in Ambala Cantonment, where Vij ordered the transfer of Ambala City Executive Engineer Harish Goyal after officials failed to satisfactorily explain allegations of unauthorised electricity supply at Jaggi City Centre.
A complainant alleged that a low-tension connection was being used to supply electricity to tractor-trolleys and amusement rides.
Dissatisfied with the department's response, Vij reprimanded the Superintending Engineer and other officials and separately pulled up the Electrical Inspector over the telephone, warning that negligence would not be tolerated.
In another case, Vij ordered an inquiry into allegations that Bride Public School in Bara village was admitting students to Class 10 despite having recognition only up to Class 8.
A woman alleged that the school was collecting fees while jeopardising students' academic futures.
The minister directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate to investigate the complaint with education department officials and take strict action if violations were established.
Two cyber fraud complaints involving more than Rs 12.40 lakh also prompted police investigation orders. While an Ambala City resident reported losing Rs 9 lakh, another complainant from Milap Nagar alleged that fraudsters siphoned off more than Rs 3.40 lakh after inducing him to open a link on his mobile phone.
Vij directed police to act promptly and reminded citizens to report financial cyber fraud through helpline 1930.
The minister also ordered a fresh investigation into the death of a Boh resident after his widow alleged that police had failed to properly investigate her husband's suspected murder.
His body had reportedly been recovered from the bushes, but the woman claimed police were treating the case as a normal death.
Turning to civic works, Vij directed Municipal Council officials to issue a notice and initiate blacklisting proceedings against a contractor over stalled development work in Ward 27.
He ordered retendering if the contractor failed to execute the project and instructed officials to scrutinise contractors' financial capacity before awarding contracts.
He also reprimanded an executive engineer over delays in installing a lift at a parking facility.
"My name is Anil Vij. I have an X-ray machine in my mind," the minister remarked while questioning officials over pending works, directing them to submit a progress report before the next public hearing.
Vij said Rs 1 crore had been sanctioned for development works in each ward of Ambala Cantonment, while Rs 20 crore had been approved for the Mahesh Nagar drain project.
He also issued directions on electricity supply, transformer placement, unauthorised construction and other public grievances.
Vendors associated with the PM Surya Ghar scheme told the minister that Ambala ranked second in Haryana in implementing the rooftop solar programme.
Vij said the state aimed to secure the top position nationally.
Speaking to reporters, Vij said efforts had been made to resolve complaints immediately wherever possible, while cases requiring further scrutiny had been referred to the competent authorities.
"Wherever necessary, instructions have been issued to officials, and investigations have been ordered in certain cases," he said.
