Crackdown on Lucknow's Aminabad drug market: 14 licenses cancelled, 29 suspended in fake billing racket

Lucknow, Oct 15 (UNI) In its ongoing investigation into fake medicines and fake billing, the Uttar Pradesh Food Safety and Drug Administration has struck a heavy blow against drug firms in Aminabad, the capital's largest drug market. As part of the crackdown, the drug licenses of 14 have been cancelled, while 29 have been suspended on Thursday. A decision on five firms is pending.
The establishments whose licenses were cancelled were found to be involved in cross-billing and the trade of fake medicines.
Meanwhile, the establishments whose licenses were suspended were acted against because of deficiencies found in the FSDA's investigation.
The FSDA's investigation in August had revealed that some firms linked to Aminabad were showing purchases and sales on paper while circulating fake and counterfeit medicines in the market.
On August 12, a total of nine FIRs were registered at Aminabad police station under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against firms including M/s Health Plus, M.K. Pharma, Ram Pharma, and Saharanpur's Patient Care Surgical House.
Earlier, in July, fake medicines were seized from illegal warehouses in Alambagh, Bakshi Ka Talab, and Aminabad in Lucknow.
An FIR was registered against eight Aminabad firms and one software vendor on charges of fake billing and tampering with software, while a cross-billing syndicate operating without physical supply was exposed in Kaiserbagh.
According to the department, illegal medicines worth approximately Rs 41.58 lakh have been seized in Lucknow so far, and nine FIRs have been registered against 32 people, with two arrests made.
Continuing this action, the licenses of Health Plus, M.K. Pharma, and Ram Pharma have now been cancelled.
Besides these, the licenses of Shri Banke Bihari Pharma, New Baba Pharma, Chhota Pharma, Bharat Pharma, Vidya Pharma, Shri Ashok Pharmaceutics, M.D.H. Pharma, Shri Raj Rajeshwar Enterprises, and Supervision Traders have also been revoked.
The same action has been taken against Mishra Associates' main establishment and its warehouse.
According to the investigation list, one warehouse of Mishra Associates was being operated without a license.
The establishments whose licenses have been suspended include S.S. Medico, Mahalakshmi Traders, Tradmed India Pvt. Ltd. (two locations), Medtrass Multiverse, Pharma Sales, Sukhmani Pharma, Bapu Medical Hall, Anant Enterprises, Sanskriti Pharma, Om Sai Ram Medicos (warehouse), Rudraksh Pharma, and Durga Distributors (main firm and warehouse).
In addition, the licenses of Bhagwati Enterprises, Jai Shri Mahakal Pharmaceuticals, Mac Pharma, Shri Tirupati Balaji Agency, R.G. Pharma, Anantasia Pharma Pvt. Ltd., Sonal Pharma, Gayatri Pharma and Surgicals, S.K.G. Medicals, Maa Ambe Pharma, Shri Ashtavinayak Pharmaceuticals, A.S. Medical Store, S.P. Pharma, Durva International, and R.N. Pharma have also been suspended. During the suspension period, these establishments will not be able to buy or sell medicines.
Show-cause notices were issued to Vinod Pharmaceuticals Distributors, Shri Krishna Pharmaceuticals Distributors, Raj & Brothers Pharma, Guruji Pharmaceuticals, and Sun Light Pharma, but the final decision in their cases is still pending.
The premises of all five of these firms are also located in Aminabad.
The simultaneous action against so many establishments in Aminabad's drug market has caused panic among traders. The department has said that the campaign against the network of fake medicines and fake billing will continue in the future as well.
