Outstanding UP Gram Panchayats will receive prize of Rs 50 lakh

Lucknow, Sep 9 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Panchayati Raj Department has instituted the "Chief Minister's Special Award" for the first time to encourage the holistic and sustainable development of Gram Panchayats in the state.
Ten Gram Panchayats that have achieved outstanding work in various areas, in keeping with the spirit of Gram Panchayat development, will be honoured with this award.
Director of Panchayati Raj, Amit Singh, informed here on Wednesday that the Chief Minister's Panchayat Award Scheme has been a priority scheme of the Chief Minister for the past nine years, awarding five Gram Panchayats from each district, representing 375 Gram Panchayats in the state. This is the first time that, in addition to the existing scheme, only 10 Panchayats across the state will be awarded a sum of Rs50 lakh as a prize to Panchayats performing commendable work in a specific area.
