Haryana CM launches 10-day mission to clear 21 garbage hotspots in Gurugram

Gurugram, Oct 2 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday launched a 10-day campaign to eliminate 21 garbage-vulnerable points across Gurugram, placing citizen participation at the centre of efforts to create cleaner and more sustainable public spaces.
Launching the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram's GVP-Free Campaign under Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 on Gandhi Jayanti, Saini said cleaning garbage hotspots once would not solve the problem unless residents helped prevent waste from accumulating at the sites again.
“The objective is not merely to clean these points once, but to ensure that they never turn into garbage dumps again,” Saini said.
The campaign, themed “10 Days – 21 Garbage Points – One Gurugram,” will run from October 2 to 11 and target locations that have remained vulnerable to repeated garbage dumping.
Saini inspected a newly developed GVP-free site near DHBVN Colony on Mehrauli Road and said effective sanitation required a combination of administrative action, technology and community involvement.
“Government machinery, technological innovation and public participation are the three pillars of a successful cleanliness movement,” he said.
The chief minister urged households, commercial establishments and institutions to segregate waste at source, refrain from open dumping and hand over garbage only to authorised collection vehicles.
The campaign began at DHBVN Colony on Mehrauli Road and Sarhaul on October 2. Tikri and Sector 18 will be covered on October 3, followed by Urbana Mall and Subhash Chowk on October 4.
Pace City-1 and Gaushala Maidan will be covered on October 5, while Pace City and Singha Chowk will be taken up on October 6.
The remaining locations include Krishna Colony, Megapolis Mall, Indian Gas crossing, Ghata, Banjara Market, Sector 37, Mohammad Heri Road, Daulatabad Road, Sector 39 and Ullawas. The campaign will conclude on October 11.
The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram has called on resident welfare associations, market bodies, shopkeepers, students, youth organisations and residents to participate in the campaign and help turn garbage hotspots into clean public spaces.
Officials said the campaign would go beyond garbage removal by involving community monitoring, voluntary participation and behavioural change to prevent the cleaned sites from reverting to dumping grounds.
A street play highlighting waste segregation and responsible disposal was also staged during the launch. Saini administered a cleanliness pledge to officials and residents.
The campaign aims to make the elimination of the 21 garbage-vulnerable points sustainable rather than a one-time clean-up, with the administration seeking joint responsibility from civic agencies and residents to ensure that garbage does not return to the cleared locations.UNI KK AAB
