Haryana: Panchkula Police nabs 5th conman in Rs 95-lakh cyber trap

Panchkula, Oct 1 (UNI) Panchkula Police has struck another blow against a ruthless cyber fraud ring, arresting the fifth accused in a Rs 95.21 lakh online trading scam that stripped an 81-year-old retired man of his savings and dragging the victim closer to justice with the recovery and return of Rs 54 lakh, officials said today.
The latest arrest of Vikram alias Vicky, a resident of Kaithal, has peeled back another layer of a meticulously orchestrated digital heist that exploited the trust of a senior citizen living in Sector-6, Panchkula. According to DCP Crime and Traffic Amrinder Singh, the con began when fraudsters approached the elderly complainant through WhatsApp with a glittering promise of windfall gains through online share trading. They seamlessly connected him to a bogus trading platform and, in a classic bait-and-switch manoeuvre, initially transferred modest profits into his account to cement his faith in the scheme.
With the victim’s confidence secured, the accused tightened the noose, persuading him to pump a staggering Rs 95,21,560 into a maze of bank accounts controlled by the syndicate. The money was siphoned off from the complainant’s own account and from the account of his daughter-in-law. The facade crumbled only when the octogenarian tried to withdraw his purported earnings and was instead cornered into depositing still more funds. It was then that the horrifying realisation dawned on him: he had been bled dry by cyber predators. He rushed to the police, prompting the registration of a case at Cyber Crime Police Station, Sector-20, Panchkula, on October 8, 2025.
During the painstaking investigation led by SHO Yudhveer Singh, the cyber unit discovered that Rs 15 lakh of the cheated amount had landed in the bank account of Vikram alias Vicky on September 6, 2025. After months of technical surveillance and dogged fieldwork, the police team finally tracked him down and arrested him on September 29, 2026. Produced before a local court the following day, he was remanded to three days in police custody, during which investigators are subjecting him to intense interrogation to untangle the full money trail and expose every node of the criminal network.
Vikram’s arrest brings to five the number of accused now in the net. Police had earlier apprehended Gurdeep Singh alias Deepu Dabla and Manjeet Singh, both hailing from Hisar, Manshvi Dhochhak of Sonipat, and Anoop Kumar of Delhi. A chargesheet has already been filed against these four accused and the matter is presently under trial.
Commissioner of Police Pankaj Nain made it clear that Panchkula Police is fighting this battle on two fronts: crushing the fraud syndicate and clawing back the victim’s money. He confirmed that Rs 54 lakh has already been restored to the complainant and vowed that the hunt for the remaining accused continues at full throttle until every last rupee is recovered.
Nain declared that the force will not rest until the entire cyber fraud network is identified, dismantled, and every conspirator is brought to book under the stringent provisions of the law. UNI KK SS
