Four held with 10 kg heroin, 10 pistols in Amritsar; Police probe alleged cross-border links

Chandigarh, Oct 2 (UNI) Punjab Police on Friday said they have arrested four men and recovered 10 kg of heroin and 10 illegal pistols after busting two alleged cross-border arms and narcotics supply networks in Amritsar district.
The accused were identified as Rajanpreet Singh of Galluwal, Vijay of Rajatal Colony in Gharinda, Parasdeep Singh alias Billa of Kamboa and Gurmukh Singh alias Bodi of Kahangarh, Attari.
“Preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused are allegedly linked to foreign-based smugglers,” Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said, adding that further investigation was underway to establish the network’s backward and forward linkages.
Inspector General of Police, Border Range, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said police arrested Rajanpreet and Vijay in the first operation and recovered 10 illegal pistols from their possession.
In a separate operation, Parasdeep and Gurmukh were arrested, and 10 kg of heroin was recovered from them, Bhullar said. Police alleged that Parasdeep was involved in running a drug cartel in the region.
Two separate cases have been registered at Gharinda police station FIR No. 422 under Section 25 of the Arms Act and FIR No. 423 under Section 21 of the NDPS Act.
Police said further investigation was underway.
