Buy khadi, back local artisans: Badoli pushes Swadeshi drive on Gandhi Jayanti

Sonipat, Oct 2 (UNI) Haryana Bureau of Public Enterprises Chairman Mohan Lal Badoli on Friday made a strong pitch for Swadeshi and locally made products, saying greater use of khadi could support artisans and weavers while strengthening the goal of self-reliance.
Marking Gandhi Jayanti with a series of programmes in Sonipat and Gohana, Badoli purchased khadi fabric under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan and urged people to give preference to products made by local craftsmen.
“Khadi is not merely a fabric; it symbolises the philosophy of Swadeshi, simplicity and self-reliance that Mahatma Gandhi took to the masses,” Badoli said.
He said buying khadi and other indigenous products was also a way of recognising the labour of local artisans and weavers and strengthening their livelihoods.
“People should increasingly adopt Swadeshi products and give priority to goods made by local artisans and weavers so that their hard work gets due recognition and the spirit of self-reliance is strengthened,” he said.
Earlier, Badoli paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at his residence in Sector 15, Sonipat.
He said Gandhi's ideals of truth, non-violence and cleanliness and Shastri's values of simplicity, honesty and service to the nation continued to inspire people.
Badoli later joined a cleanliness drive at Gandhi Chowk in Sector 14 along with Sonipat Mayor Rajiv Jain, calling for greater public participation in keeping the city clean.
“Cleanliness is not the responsibility of any one individual or institution; it is our collective responsibility,” Badoli said, urging residents to contribute towards making Sonipat cleaner and more attractive.
The day's programme also focused on environmental conservation. Badoli planted a Miyazaki mango sapling at the Shaheed Smarak complex in Hullaheri village and appealed to people to plant more trees.
He particularly called for planting medicinal species such as Nirgundi and urged citizens to actively participate in environmental protection.
Badoli said the values associated with Gandhi Jayanti should be reflected in everyday life through greater use of Swadeshi products, public participation in cleanliness and environmental conservation.
