Encounter breaks out with suspected terrorists in Basantgarh area of Udhampur

Jammu, June 26 (UNI) A gunfight erupted between suspected terrorists and security forces on Thursday morning in a remote village of Basantgarh in Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, security sources said.

Official sources here said that acting on a tip-off about the movement of suspects, a joint team of police and Army launched a search operation in the general area of Sazi, near Karoor Nallah in Basantgarh.

"The search party was fired upon by suspected terrorists, which was retaliated," they said.

They said the encounter erupted, adding, "the area is cordoned and the operation is in progress."
