UP shines in PM Surya Ghar Yojana, 74,796 rooftop solar plants installed in Sep

Lucknow, Oct 2 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh has ranked first in the country in September 2026 in rooftop solar installations under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme.
According to officials in September, 74,796 rooftop solar plants were installed in the state. Andhra Pradesh, with 69,813, and Maharashtra, with 60,907 installations, ranked second and third, respectively. Gujarat recorded 45,616 rooftop solar installations, and Kerala, with 30,315. Thus, Uttar Pradesh topped the monthly installations for September.
In September, Uttar Pradesh installed an average of 2,493 rooftop solar plants daily. On September 30th, the state recorded 3,389 installations in a single day. For the entire month, Uttar Pradesh saw 29,180 more installations than Gujarat and 13,889 more than Maharashtra.
A total of 438,815 rooftop solar installations were installed nationwide in September, with Uttar Pradesh accounting for approximately 17 percent.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, renewable energy expansion is being promoted in the state. The state-level implementation, departmental coordination, and progress monitoring of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana are being overseen by UP NEDA Director Ravinder Singh.
As of September 30, 2026, a total of 867,755 rooftop solar installations have been completed under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana in Uttar Pradesh.
Their total installed capacity has reached 2,911.39 MW. Gujarat, with 870,152 installations, trailed Uttar Pradesh by only 2,397 installations, while Maharashtra's cumulative installations stood at 827,182.
PM Surya Ghar: Under the free electricity scheme, eligible domestic electricity consumers are eligible to avail subsidy on installing rooftop solar plants. The scheme's deadline is March 31, 2027.
Officials are urging the remaining electricity consumers in the state to apply for rooftop solar plants under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana in a timely manner and avail the subsidy as per their eligibility. Consumers can apply through the PM Surya Ghar National Portal.
