Namami Gange calls for environmental protection at Kashi Vishwanath Dham on occasion of Durga Puja

Varanasi, Oct 13 (UNI) The Namami Gange has appealed to the public to embrace Goddess Durga's message of nature conservation during Navratri at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham.
During this, women in the form of Durga raised awareness about environmental protection in front of the statue of Bharat Mata installed in Baba Darbar.
Rajesh Shukla, coordinator of Namami Gange Kashi region and the Municipal Corporation's cleanliness brand ambassador, said here on Tuesday that the worship of Goddess Durga and the festival of Navratri convey a profound message of nature and environmental protection.
In Indian tradition, the worship of Shakti is linked to the balance of nature, the environment, and life. The verse from Durga Saptashati, "Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Prakriti-rupen Samsthita," also conveys the message that the Goddess is present in all beings as nature.
He said that during Durga Puja, a Navpatrika is made and worshipped using nine types of plants and leaves. This tradition symbolises the rejuvenation of agriculture, vegetation, and nature.
He appealed to people to make water conservation, tree planting, and river cleanliness a part of their lives during Navratri.
Shukla said that traditionally, soil from ponds and rivers is used to make idols of Goddess Durga. After immersion, this soil returns to nature.
He said that only by conserving nature can the balance of life and the environment be maintained.
