Himachal government prioritising rural economy, balanced development: CM

Shimla, October 2 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday said strengthening the rural economy and ensuring balanced development of all areas remained a priority of his government.
Addressing a public meeting at Rampur, Sukhu said the government was working to increase the income of people in rural areas and ensure greater flow of money into village economies.
He said the procurement price of milk had increased from Rs 32 per litre when the Congress government assumed office to nearly double the earlier rate, benefiting farmers and livestock rearers.
The government was also taking steps to strengthen the economic condition of farmers and horticulturists, he added.
The Chief Minister said the state had increased the procurement price of apples under the Market Intervention Scheme by Rs 1 per kg. Apples would now be procured at Rs 13 per kg instead of Rs 12 per kg, directly benefiting growers.
He announced that Rs 36 crore had been sanctioned for construction of the Tikkar-Jarol-Gahan road, which would facilitate transportation of apple produce to markets.
He directed officials to ensure that there was no compromise on construction quality.
Sukhu said Himachal Pradesh was expected to benefit by around Rs 1,200-1,500 crore annually from the Kishau Dam Project.
He said the additional revenue would help strengthen schools, healthcare institutions and other essential facilities across the state.
The Chief Minister said he would participate in the ‘Sarkar Gaon Ke Dwar’ programme at Pat village in Rampur and interact with villagers to hear their concerns.
Suggestions received during the programme would be considered while framing schemes for the state budget, he added.
He also congratulated people on the inauguration and foundation-laying of various development projects in the area.
