J&K: Gunfights break out in Kishtwar, Udhampur

Jammu, Apr 9 (UNI) Two gunfights erupted between security forces and a group of terrorists on Wednesday in the forests of Kishtwar and Udhampur districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Official sources here said that an encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists in Chatroo area of Kishtwar.
“The security forces established contact with the terrorists upon receipt of specific inputs about their presence in the woods of Chatroo area following which a search operation was launched,” they said.
“Few rounds were fired from both the sides while intermittent exchange of gunfire is going on,” they added.
Sources further said that encounter has also triggered between terrorists and security forces in village Jopher of Ramnagar tehsil in Udhampur district.
“The gunfight broke out when a joint team of police and army had launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) on specific inputs about movement of terrorists in Jopher village,” they said.
“Two to three terrorists are believed to be trapped,” they added and said that the operation is in progress.

ACB unearths major corruption in dredging project at Ramsar-designated wetland

Srinagar, Apr 19 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau has unearthed a major corruption in the dredging of the flood spill channel of the Hokersar wetland- a Ramsar-designated wetland of international importance on Srinagar outskirts.
The dredging project was initiated to enhance the flood-carrying capacity of the spill channel in the aftermath of the devastating 2014 floods, aiming to mitigate future flood risks in Srinagar. Known as the “Queen of Wetlands,” Hokersar plays a critical ecological role and is home to numerous migratory bird species.
