Cloud burst and flash floods at Khaniyara near Dharamshala, two bodies recovered

Dharamshala, June 25 (UNI) A cloud burst followed by flash floods in the Manooni river near Khaniyara in Kangra district has led to unknown number of deaths, authorities said today, adding that two unidentified bodies were recovered from the khad.
Deputy Commissioner Kangra Hemraj Bairwa told UNI that authorities have recovered two unidentified bodies from Manooni river and the count of the people on the spot, who were working on different power projects there, was in progress.
Local BJP MLA Sudhir Sharma told UNI that nearly 20 persons were feared washed away by the flash floods.
However, the officials are tight lipped about the number of the people affected by the flash floods.

Shalini Agnihotri, Kàngra district Superintendent of Police, told UNI that counting of heads was continuing, and after the process will be completed then only the exact number of missing people will be confirmed.
She however said the number could be far less than speculated.
It is learnt that following the cloud burst there was a flash flood in Manooni Khad and some hutments, where labourers of a power project were living, were washed away.
In this monsoon season, this is the first major cloud burst in the district Kangra.
The pilgrims despite the monsoon risking life were seen taking bath at the Banner Khad in Kangra, which experiences flash floods frequently.

Chief Minister has expressed concern over the incident.
