BJP shifts Punjab poll push to district level, fixes responsibilities for 2027 battle

Panchkula, Oct 2 (UNI) On Friday, the BJP intensified its Punjab election preparations by delegating responsibilities to district-level functionaries and assessing grassroots capabilities during the second day of strategy meetings for the 2027 Assembly polls.
The two-day organisational session at Red Bishop in Panchkula, led by BJP national general secretary (organisation) B L Santhosh, follows the party's 13-day Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra, which covered approximately 4,000 km across all 117 Assembly constituencies.
Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon told the press that district presidents and other organisational leaders were called to the meeting, where specific responsibilities were assigned in preparation for the elections.
"All district presidents and office-bearers have been called, and everyone's responsibility has been fixed," Dhillon told reporters. "The elections are approaching. We will fight strongly and form the government."
During the initial session on Friday, Santhosh and Dhillon met with district presidents, followed by a meeting with district in-charges and co-in-charges. Discussions focused on strengthening the organisation, identifying ground-level weaknesses, and using feedback from the anti-drug campaign to inform election strategy.
The party is closely evaluating its grassroots reach and overall preparedness across Punjab ahead of next year's Assembly election.
Senior BJP leader Satish Poonia, now responsible for Punjab, also attended the Panchkula meetings. He has stated that his immediate priority is to review and strengthen the party organisation from the booth to the state level ahead of the 2027 polls.
Dhillon stated that the meeting, which included senior organisational leaders, was focused on preparing the party for the upcoming electoral contest.
He also criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government, alleging that Punjab faces significant challenges related to drugs, gang activity, and financial instability.
"People are being beaten, dragged and put behind bars. Their voice is being suppressed," Dhillon alleged.
He claimed that individuals raising concerns about drugs, gang activity, or other issues are being targeted by the state government. The AAP government's response to these allegations was not immediately available.
The Panchkula meeting is also assessing the political and organisational impact of the BJP's Nasha Mukt Punjab Yatra, including feedback gathered from interactions across the state.
The statewide campaign concluded in Jalandhar on September 30. The BJP leadership then began the two-day Panchkula strategy session, marking a transition from mass outreach to organisational preparations for the 2027 election.
